Our Week Vacation In Florida
As you know by now (which I hope you do if you have been following along with me for some time now), Chad and I are back in Hawaii from our week long trip to Florida!
Chad’s sister recently had a baby a few months ago so we decided to make a trip to go meet the little man, Beau, and visit with his family and friends that he hasn’t seen in years.
So here’s a little recap of our trip to the “sunshine state.” (I put the quotation marks because I no longer believe Florida is the Sunshine State after living in Hawaii . . . #sorrynotsorry)
Our Complication With Space-A
So let me start from the beginning with our space-a flight (space available), also known as a military hop. We were hoping to fly space-a to Florida because we had seen some flights going out that way from Hickam AFB so we thought, what the heck, let’s take the risk.
After doing a ton of research (or so I thought) about flying space-a, I called on Friday afternoon/evening to check where we stood in regards to the flight we saw leaving for Jacksonville, FL on Sunday. Well, the soldier told me that we were not signed up for the flight and that we couldn’t sign up for the flight UNTIL Chad was actually on leave. To me, that is so stupid. But I guess that’s what makes space-a so competitive . . .
I thought that you could sign up for a flight 60 days in advance for the date you want to leave on and that you could sign up once your leave is approved . . . So needless to say I was completely wrong. I hope this helps someone who is trying to figure out space-a!
So we find out that we aren’t signed up for the flight so we’re like crap because the flight is on Sunday and it’s now Friday . . . At 11:30PM Friday night we leave to drive to post to sign Chad out for leave and get home around 12:30AM. I sign us up for the flight right before 1 in the morning after making sure I have sent in all the correct information and all that.
We go to sleep and the next day (Saturday) I clean the house, do laundry, and pack for our flight that is leaving on Sunday . . . That evening as we just finished packing I decide to check the flight to see if they had released how many seats will be available for the flight . . . . the flight was gone.
It wasn’t on the flight schedule anymore so Chad and I think it’s cancelled so we quickly book tickets out of Honolulu leaving on Sunday . . .
Sunday morning rolls around and I think to myself, I need to check this one more time to see if I missed something . . . . When I checked Sunday morning, the updated flight information stated that the flight to Florida left on Saturday. I was so mad.
So yeah, that was our first experience with trying to fly space-a. Definitely a learning experience that’s for sure.
Our Time In Florida
We didn’t do too much adventuring or anything of the sort really. We spent every day catching up with Chad’s family and friends. But to me that’s what we were really going for because Chad hadn’t seen some of his family and friends in literally years.
We got to see both of his grandparents new homes in Florida, meet his sisters baby and his long time best friends baby, grab drinks and lunch with some of his friends, and eat. We ate A LOT.
Chad wanted some Publix subs so we got that the first day and another day we got Chic-fil-a because they don’t have that in Hawaii </3. We also got Glory Days, which is a bar and grill where I am from. Glory Days seriously has the best boneless wings and I feel confident in saying that considering I have had boneless wings from Buffalo Wild Winds, Buffalo Wing University, Hooters, Miami Grill (place in Hawaii), Chili’s (Chili’s is my second favorite boneless wing spot surprisingly), Wing Stop and probably more places that I can’t think of at the moment . . . So yeah, Glory Days boneless wings has no competition to any other place at the moment.
Universal Studios & Islands of Adventure
I wanted to go to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter while we were in Florida so we got the 1 Day Park-to-Park tickets with the Express Pass and I HIGHLY recommending purchasing that ad-on if you ever go to either of those parks for just the day.
Obviously they were expensive but we seriously would not have been able to get through both parks in one day and see/do as much as we did without the pass. We definitely got our moneys worth from the passes.
I had never been to Universal Studios or Islands of Adventure so that was definitely a lot of fun for me! I wish we had spent a little more time in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter now that I know a little more about it but that’s alright, I’m sure we’ll be back one day.
We flew Delta all the way to Florida and all the way back home. I have never really been one who favorites one airline over the other or someone who only flies a certain airline, but Chad and I were both blown away by Delta’s service on all of our flights!
From Hawaii we flew 8 straight hours to Atlanta on one of those big planes where it has two seats on the outside and down the middle it has the four seaters. Well, on this particular flight they served us dinner (our flight left at 4pm) which included your choice of pasta, chicken or salad that came with a breadstick, a fresh caesar salad, brownie, a quality cheese stick, and veggies and pita bread with hummus.
Since we flew over night we were also served breakfast in the morning which included Chobani blueberry yogurt, a granola bar and some fresh fruit.
All of our flights had those screens in the backseat where you could listen to music, watch TV shows or movies, get updates on the flight, play games and more. The TV and movie selections were actually good too! I thought we would have to pay to watch the movies or the selections would all be shitty and old but they were actually pretty current movies with a wide selection.
Our screens plus some others on the flight from LA to Hawaii weren’t working though so they gave us each a $50 credit to go towards our next Delta flight!
I Lost My iPad . . .
I accidentally left my iPad in the pocket of the seat in front of me on the flight from LA to Hawaii and didn’t notice until Chad and I were home unpacking. We filled out a Lost/Stolen Report with Delta online and that honestly didn’t help at all . . .
I seriously thought my iPad was a goner but I was persistent in my search to find it and I kept trying different numbers to call in hopes that someone would be able to help me find it.
Well, I finally got ahold of Honolulu International Aiport’s Lost and Found department and he transferred me over to Delta’s Baggage Claim department (I think??) and they had my iPad!! I was so happy I couldn’t believe it.
So yeah, that’s definitely something Delta needs to work on because that form has helped in no way. I lost my iPad on Monday and just now received an email today (Thursday) that they are still searching for it and if I have found it to update my Lost Report Form . . . Stupid.
And there you have it, a little recap of our trip to Florida!
